Located in St. Joseph County, Michigan, Sturgis is a city with a population of approximately 11,000 residents. It is located within the northeastern corner of Sturgis Township found at the intersection of M-66 and U.S. Highway 12. This community is named for Judge John Sturgis, who settle in the area in 1827, and it became a city in 1896. Notable residents have included actor Verne Troyer and voice actor Tom Bodett.
Although Sturgis is not a huge city, there are several notable attractions located here. The Klinger Lake Country Club is a great place to spend an afternoon on the links, and other active areas of interest include Outpost Guns and the Sturgis Academy of Martial Arts. Arts and recreational opportunities in the community include the Sturgis Arts Council, the Open Door Gallery, and Sturgis Rocket Football. Other notable area attractions include the Doyle Community Center and the Sturges-Young Auditorium.
In order to stay safe during the community’s varied weather conditions, Sturgis residents need to invest in both home heating and cooling systems. The community is known for its humid continental climate zone, and summers are hot and humid with high temperatures averaging in the low- to mid-80s. The season tends to be long, so it is important that residents have a cool place to retreat in order to beat the summer heat. Not only do these systems help to keep your home interior temperatures comfortable, but they can also save you considerable money on your monthly electric bills by improving your energy efficiency.
Winter weather can also be dangerous, as temperatures often fail to reach the freezing level. The Lake Effect also brings considerable snowfall to the area, and when combined with frigid temperatures, these conditions can be hazardous to area residents. For these reasons, Sturgis residents will need to invest in a high quality furnace or heat pump system.
