Cassopolis is a U.S. village found in Cass County, Michigan, and it also serves as the county seat. As of 2010, this community was home to nearly 1,800 people, and it was named for Lewis Cass, a prominent United States senator from Michigan before the American Civil War. The Village of Cassopolis is found within the South Bend – Mishawaka, IN-MI Metro Statistical Area, and students will attend Sam Adams Elementary and Ross Beatty Junior/Senior High School when living in the community.
Cassopolis is a small community, but there are a few attractions located within this village. Outdoor enthusiasts may enjoy spending a weekend at Cool Springs Campground, while teenagers may prefer spending their time at Laser Tag Michigan. Golf enthusiasts may like to play a round at the Diamond Lake Golf Club, while history buffs may prefer an afternoon excursion to the Pioneer Log Cabin Museum.
Cassopolis is located only about 20 miles from the major city of Elkhart, so residents can easily access attractions there, as well. Elkhart hosts a variety of unique festivals throughout the year, including the Elkhart Jazz Festival and the Elkhart Air Show. Local museums also include the Midwest Museum of American Art and the Woodlawn Nature Center.
Winters in Cassopolis tend to be cold and snowy. The Lake Effect often influences the area and brings major snowstorms, and when combined with freezing temperatures, weather conditions can become dangerous. Residents will need to invest in a home heating system to stay safe when winter weather sets in, and these systems will also prevent plumbing and pipes from freezing, which could result in costly repair bills.
Summers in Cassopolis tend to be hot and humid. Average high temperatures tend to reach the mid-80s, but high humidity can make it feel even warmer. It is recommended that homeowners utilize the spring months to have their units serviced to ensure that they are operating efficiently when the hottest of weather conditions set in.
